Spider bites are actually rare. Spiders really  dont  bite humans very often.  Most people are quick to blame a spider for any unusual bump or mark on their skin, but in the vast majority of cases, the cause of your skin irritation is not a spider bite. This belief is so pervasive that doctors often misdiagnose (and mistreat) skin disorders as spider bites. Spiders Aren't Built to Bite Large Mammals First of all, spiders are not built to do battle with large mammals like humans. Spiders are designed to capture and kill other invertebrates. With few exceptions (most notably, that of widow spiders), spider venom is not lethal enough to do much damage to human tissues. Chris Buddle, an Associate Professor of Insect Ecology at McGill University, notes that of the almost 40,000 spider species, globally, there are less than a dozen or so that can cause serious health problems to the average, healthy human. And even those with venom potent enough to threaten harm to a human are ill equipped to bite us. Spider fangs simply arent made for puncturing human skin. Thats not to say spiders cant bite humans, but its not an easy thing for them to do. Ask any arachnologist how often they suffer bites while handling live spiders. Theyll tell you that they dont get bitten, period. Spiders Choose Flight Over Fight One of the main ways that spiders detect threats is by sensing vibrations in their environment, much like they detect the presence of wayward insects in their webs. People make a lot of noise, and spiders are well aware that we are coming their way. And if a spider knows you are coming, its going to choose flight over fight whenever possible. When Spiders Do Bite Now, occasionally, spiders do bite people. When does this happen? Usually, when someone unknowingly sticks his hand into a spiders habitat, and the spider is forced to defend itself. And heres a disturbing little tidbit of spider bite trivia for you, courtesy of entomologist Dr. Gilbert Waldbauer in The Handy Bug Answer Book: The majority of [black widow spider] bites are inflicted on men or boys sitting in an outdoor privy, or pit toilet. Black widows sometimes spin their web just beneath the hole in the seat, often a good place to catch flies. If the unfortunate persons penis dangles in the web, the female spider rushes to attack; presumably in defense of her egg sacs, which are attached to the web. There are dozens of medical conditions that can cause a skin irritation that looks like a bite, from vascular disorders to diseases of the lymphatic system. Bacterial or viral infections are often misdiagnosed as arthropod bites. Consumerist is a social and economic order that encourages the purchase of goods and services in ever greater amounts. In the American consumption, people do not know how much is enough, do we really need all we buy? Or we just buy it because everyone else has it? Does it make us any happier? In the article â€Å"The New Politics of Consumption: Why Americans Want So Much More That They Need† Juliet Schor shares with us her point of view about American Consumption. In Schor’s article says, â€Å"The average American now finds it harder to achieve a satisfying standard of living than 25 years ago† (411). Also that â€Å"The competitive consumption, the idea that spending is in large part driven by a comparative or competitive process in which individuals try to keep up with the norms of the social group with which they identify as a reference group† (412). Finally she believes that â€Å"Low income children are more likely to be exposed to commercials at school, as well as home† (413). Our personal consumer choices have ecological, social, and spiritual consequences. Much of what we purchase is not essential for our survival or even basic human comfort but is based on impulse, a momentary desire, and there is a hidden price that we, and future generations will pay for it too. The American economy’s ultimate purpose is to produce more consumer goods, not better health care, education, housing, transportation, but to provide more stuff to consumers. First, in Schor’s article she says, â€Å"The average American now finds it harder to achieve a satisfying standard of living than 25 years ago† (411). Nowadays people have to work longer hours than 25 year ago, to be able to pay all their desires. Having more and newer things each year has become not just something we want but something we need. The idea of more, ever increasing wealth has become the center of our identity, and this looks like an addiction. For example, my aunt Maria works 5 days a week to be able to pay all her bills and sometimes does overtime. She might have a lot of new and cool things, but she doesn’t even have time to enjoy all these things because she has to be working just to pay all she has. My aunt has a salary of $9. 25 per hour and getting a check of $740 biweekly which she have to use to pay her car $200, plus her phone $85, personal stuff $150, and the list keep going. I have worked 40 hours a week, going to classes full-time with little satisfaction. Without working that long, I am less stressed, and I prefer to learn how to spend less money, than spending more, and live stressed all the time. People should take more responsibility for themselves and their families and think outside of the box when it comes to life. Working less hours and buying fewer products is a good way to start. Also, Schor says, â€Å"The competitive consumption, the idea that spending is in large part driven by a comparative or competitive process in which individuals try to keep up with the norms of the social group with which they identify as a reference group† (412). People try to be in the same level that everyone else; if they see that somebody bought something, they will try to have that, just because that person has it. An example is the iPhones people are obsessed with them. The first iPhone was the 3G, then 3GS, 4, 4S, and the 5 that is the last one that just came out. All of these iPhones do almost the same functions; they just changed the size, and some other little things. People spend a lot of money buying the iPhones; the prices are between $300 and $500. The point is that people want to keep up with the newest things, just because other people will have it. For example, my cousin Heysus who is 23 years old, have been buying all the iPhones, because all his friends have them, and whenever came a new iPhone, he ordered it immediately to keep up with what his friends have. Another point is that people with less income, tend to watch more TV, in Schor’s article says, â€Å"Low income children are more likely to be exposed to commercials at school, as well as home† (413). Television and marketing are a big influence of how people spend their money. We watched an example of it in the movie of Super-Size Me, of how the companies spend a lot of their money on marketing, because they know that people is going to buy their products. We need to make people conscious about the problem that we all have as a society. Without our consumer impulse to buy the newest, coolest things on the market, there would be no market. People should think more about what they buy, and should not do unnecessary purchases I think that some people keep worrying more about what they can buy, and how they can have better and newest things instead of be worrying about how they can live happier, and less stressed. An individual does not necessarily have to live as a rich person to be happy. The thought of shorter hours working is a wealth of opportunity and adventure that no Disneyland or Las Vegas vacation can offer. It is actually stress-free and can help us to have time to more valuable parts of our life, like having more time to spend with our family and friends. There are two sub divisions which are associated in the operation of the hotel. They are classified into backend and frontend operations. It was very vital for me as a chef to keep myself up-to date with the latest information of the various departments in the hotel. It is my responsibility to check with the front desk manager about the guest who has checked in the hotel so as to get a proper idea of their choice of food and beverages (Baker, Bradley Huyton, 2011). The front end operation of a hotel plays a very vital role in the successful running of the hotel. The same is the case with Marriot hotel. When any guest walk into the hotel, the front desk manger welcomes and tries to solve his/her queries. After the guest is comfortable with the rules and regulations and with the price of the room, he/she has to approach the reservation counter to book a room in the hotel. It is very vital for the hotel to run the reservation counter properly because the customers will check the availability of the rooms and book them according to the availability. This also keeps the guest or the visitor informed and it is also vital for me to get a proper idea of the different guests who have checked into the hotel. After booking a room in the reservation counter, the guest has to visit the reception counter and the receptionist helps him/her with the various information of the hotel. I always stay in touch with the reception counter so that the visitors can cal l us and it becomes comfortable for the visitors to book on their behalf. The concierge counter is engaged with the task of fulfilling the request and wishes of the visitors. The concierge also tries to confirm that they fulfill all the requests of the customers. The guest finally visits the porter counter and then the porter carries the luggage to his room. I also interact with the porter sometimes on my leisure times so that I can get an idea of the likes and dislikes of the customers. It has been observed that sometimes the guest discusses their likings and disliking with the porter. The rooms in Marriot hotel are very spacious and it includes pokies bar, function hall, karaoke bars. In the functional hall, various entertainment programmes are organized for the visitors. This includes various kinds of concerts, other forms of comedy and various types of entertainment. In the karaoke bar, the visitors sing different famous songs and enjoy among themselves. It can be said that the restaurant of Marriot is one of the most popular restaurants in that particular location. Many visitors come to the restaurant to spend some time with their families having some famous cuisines prepared by the famous chefs. The entire restaurant works in co-ordination among the servers and the waiters. A pianist is also appointed in the restaurant to maintain proper ambiences for the visitors. This backend team works in association with the frontend team and thus helps in fulfilling the needs of the guests. I being a chef is a part of the backend team of the restaurant. This backend operation team consists of various departments such as the kitchen department, housekeeping department and the laundry department. The housekeeping department of Marriot hotel is the disciplined and the organized department in the hotel industry. Proper training to provide to the housekeeping team so that they can serve the guest properly. The main task of this department is to check that they keep the room of hotel hygienic and clean. They must also keep the kitchen clean so that the restaurant can maintain proper hygienic food. The kitchen department prepares and serves the food to the guests. This department is regarded as the main lifeline of the hotel industry because it is this department which serves food to the guests. I have worked in this department from 2013-2016 and I have learned many new dishes and cuisines it is my privilege to work with such a big team of Marriott. The kitchen is very spacious and it is occupied with various modern food processing technologies and equipments. It has been observed that a majority of the Indian guest prefers continental cuisines of the restaurant. The laundry department also works in co-ordination with the back end team of the restaurant and tries to provide clean towel and linen to the visitors of the hotel. Thus, it can be said that there must be proper co-ordination among the different department of a service industry. This is also given due importance in case of Marriot. Both the backend and the frontend team work in co-ordination with each other to deliver the best service to the customers. It is also the duty of the management team to co-ordinate and keeps a proper check on the different departments of the hotel (Jones Lockwood, 2002). The management team must also try to check that they deliver the best service in the hotel industry and this will help them in maintaining the ethical standards without compromising the standards of the hotel.
